Tsubasacon Cosplay

Contests:

Tsubasacon offers two different cosplay contests: craftsmanship and the masquerade. The craftsmanship contest is basically a costume contest; cosplayers are judged on the work they put into making their costume. Elements such as accuracy, materials used, skill, and overall look are taken into consideration to decide who has the best cosplay in a number of different categories.

The masquerade contest can best be summed up as a talent show. Contestants are not judged on what they are wearing, but rather the creativity and quality of their on-stage performance. You could sing a song, perform a skit or a dance, re-enact your favorite fight scene from an anime...whatever suits you. It's an opportunity for cosplayers to use their costumes to be completely in character and entertain.

For those of you who are a bit stage shy, the Hallway Contest might be up your alley. The Hallway contest allows you to get your costume judged without the pressure of being on stage. What do you have to do? Just show up at the con in your cosplay. Judges will be walking the hallways to look for outstanding costumes.

Please refer to the Cosplay Rules for information on what qualifies for the cosplay contests, as well as general cosplay rules.

Events:

Friday Night - Formal Masquerade Ball

Tsubasacon’s cosplay Masquerade Ball is a formal dance where everyone has the opportunity to get creative and showcase their cosplay on the dance floor. Everyone is welcome to attend, dressed up or not, but only those in cosplay can be eligible for the two awards that will be given out at the end of the evening (you must be present to win). The first is given to the Best Formal Cosplay, meaning an actual cosplay of what is considered formal attire, such as Princess Serenity or Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon. The second award is given to the Best Original Formal Cosplay, meaning a formal interpretation of a character who is not normally dressed in formal attire, such as Naruto or Wolverine from X Men. There are no restrictions to eastern or western influenced cosplays; costumes can be from anything, including Japanese anime and video games, American cartoons and video games, or even internet-based web comics.

Saturday Night - Masquerade

One of Tsubasacon’s largest and most popular events, the Masquerade is where the masquerade contest contestants perform with their skits for the judges and audience, and the craftsmanship contestants who have been previously judged have the opportunity to walk across the stage and show off their work. Cosplay awards, both for the masquerade and craftsmanship, are awarded at the end of the event.
