Really you can throw this away or take it in, but how about a fanfic contest? It could be worked just like the AMV contest except with some changes. Instead of sync to video it could be how well the person syncs there writing together(like not adding things in that you didn't say was there before). It has to stay in a PG 13 limit(like no lemons). And the voting could just be a table set somewhere, were the fanfic's were and they could vote for there favorite. Then you could tally them up and have a reader's choice, and a judges choice. The judging could be for spelling, grammar, and originality of the story. If you need more just tell me.

It's an interesting idea. But right now, we are working at solidifying the contests that we currently have. We also don't know just how popular fanfics are among those attending Tsubasacon. But the sticking point will be getting good judges that are knowledgeable enough to judge such a contest. Some of our other contests actually have similar a problem.

If you all go with the idea I would certainly do it, not to jump off topic but if you like to read fanfiction I would sugjest Quizilla.com or FanFiction.net ... I honestyl know quit a few people that would enter the contest the plan on going to the con but another thing to consedier might be to make sure your every is not OOC and that you keep the story to the cannon, but what do I know I write crapy fanfiction!

A fan-fiction contest is an interesting idea, but I agree with Farix for the time being... we're in the process of revamping our current major contests (e.g. Cosplay, AMV, etc.) that are already established and have a fairly large fan base. Having a fanfic contest would involve a lot of processes that, at the moment, are better served towards improving the quality of pre-existing activities.
However, in the future this may prove to be an addition to our events which we can afford to spend time on. This also gives us time to find judges that won't shoot themselves after reading the fifth Naruto-Sasuke yaoi in a row. |

With proper content restrictions, like what we've been discussing about with the AMV contest, we can rule out any yaoi fanfics. At most, it will be limited to shōnen-ai. |

The idea of a fanfiction contest is AMAZING. If you check out sites like Fanfiction.net, it seems like there are actually MORE people who write fanfiction than make AMVs (which are stellar in their own right). As a senior Creative Writing major and a seven year vet of fanfiction writing/reading, I'd gladly be a judge! ^_^
Since so much (greatly appreciated and adored) effort is being put into the other contests, perhaps this could start on a trial, temporary, volunteer basis? It could be based on online submissions prior to the Con, or if two or three qualified people would volunteer to judge, fics could be turned in at a table by the end of the first night. The judges would read them over the next few hours and announce the winners on the last day of the Con. Even if it can't happen this year (which is understandable), I think this is DEFINITELY an idea that's worth looking into! ^_^ What a great suggestion!!!! |

I know I would be all over doing a fanfiction contest. I can't sew (I have to buy my cosplay as shameful as that is) and I can't do AMVs due to computer issues. So besides spending my checking account limit in the dealer's room and artists' alley...I feel like there's nothing really for me to participate in.
